London District Safeguarding Conference

The subject of this year's safeguarding conference is 'Safeguarding Our Wellbeing'. Along with the workshops, the conference will explore the following themes:

Focus of care – underpinning values in the life of the church

What is wellbeing?

WHO definition of mental health

What does good mental health look like?

​Reflecting on safeguarding implications – self care is a really important principle.

How do we keep ourselves safe?

We are delighted to have Carla Quenet, Methodist presbyter and Learning Network Officer, delivering our keynote speech entitled 'Safeguarding through the lens of wellbeing'. In addition we will be hosting a panel discussion on health and wellbeing within different ethnicities.
​
Attendees are asked to arrive at 10am for registration and refreshments, before the conference begins at 10:30am. In the afternoon attendees will be able to participate in one of four workshops, each of which will deal with a specific area of wellbeing in relation to safeguarding. Please note that lunch will be provided.

Below, you will find details of each available workshop. To register your attendance at the conference, simply book a place at a workshop. Please only book one and remember, spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Afternoon workshops

Recognising and Responding Well to Stress - with Carla Quenet

Mental Health and Spirituality with Tim Jansen
Dig a little deeper into wellbeing in this interactive workshop through exploring the stress that we carry, with an opportunity to discuss together some healthy ways of managing it.

Boundaries with Howard Smedley
A workshop exploring how people can give themselves permission to put boundaries in place to protect their wellbeing and learning methods as to how to do this.
This workshop will look at what mental health and wellbeing have to do with our Christian identity. This workshop proposes a combination of theological and psychological and a practical response to this.

Traumatic Stress, the Body and Somatic Therapies with Caroline Ryder
An exploration in to the different types of stress, with a particular focus on ‘traumatic stress’ (PTSD, C-PTSD). We will take a deeper dive in to the impact of stress on the bodies nervous system and discuss how embodied therapies can aid healing and recovery.
