CTSL Big Gathering for Cool Spaces

To representatives of churches together groups, local ecumenical partnerships and other ecumenical organisations in South London

Dear all

Thanks to all of you who joined the CTSL Big Gathering last week, and to our fantastic speakers. It was a brilliant time of learning theologically and practically as well as pooling ideas to address both the weather extremes here in London and also the even more serious ones globally. You can watch a playback of the event on the CTSL YouTube channel here. Here are the key resources -

From Michele Vianello, Senior Policy Officer for Urban Resilience in GLA's Climate team:

Documents:

  • the Cool Spaces criteria for 2023

  • the methodology paper that explains how the Climate Risk Map is constructed (in case someone is interested in the specifics of the data)

  • if anyone would like the actual presentation, please email claire@ctslondon.org.uk

Michele hopes that these will help CT groups and networks decide to register a church or other space on the Cool Spaces map.

From Rev Vanessa Elston, Pioneer Priest for Climate Spirituality and Action in Battersea Deanery:

Rev Vanessa summarised the findings of the IPCC report and discussed the deep spiritual shift we need in society. She also offered a follow-up session for any local churches together groups or unity networks on 'Climate Crisis and a theology of deeper change'. You are welcome to contact vanessaelstonpioneerpriest@gmail.com if you are interested in exploring this.

Here are some links from reputable organisations which also summarise the IPCC findings:

Thanks to everyone for your time, efforts and prayers on this critical area for us all.

Every  blessing

Claire
