Following the catastrophic earthquake of 12 January 2010, which killed more than 220,000 people and left 1.5 million people homeless and living in makeshift camps, Haiti is desperately in need more than ever. Downsview Methodist Church is spearheading support for a great initiative by the Methodist Haiti District to build an entrepreneurial business school at Thomassin. It is a beacon project to help young people set up their own businesses and challenges the disaster narrative that we too often associate with Haiti. The London District would like to encourage all to support the Downsview Methodist Church in Croydon appeal, which will help the young people to gain invaluable skills to help them make a positive difference in their lives, which in turn can enable them to help themselves, their communities and help to rebuild a stronger better Haiti.
